Most couples believe in fantasy and expect that their married life will match up to it. But when reality sets in, this magical world crumbles down.
There are some reality checks that happen when married life sets in.
1) People expect that sex will be on their agenda all the time. Sex is essential in a marriage but this doesn’t form the bases of the union. There will be commitments and expectations that the couple could be required to fulfill. Sometimes just a hug would suffice for the night because you could be craving some time off to sleep and recover.
2) Most people think breakfast in bed would be the best way to start the morning. Cuddling, sipping hot coffee from the same cup, nibbling on toast together, are wonderful thoughts. But someone has to go and prepare them. Dreaming of a scene from a romantic movie rarely happens in reality. So chin up and remember it will happen when you make it happen.
3) A great marriage doesn’t mean zero conflict. Whenever a couple argues, they bring out hidden issues which they themselves were unaware of. This is actually good. It is the best way to clear the air, resolve petty issues and accept one another with their flaws. After a fight, makeup sex is really sizzling. So make sure you take advantage of the resolved situation.
4) Marriage has a way of creating a balance between two different people. The husband may prefer to sleep over the weekend while the wife prefers to go for a movie. In time, they slowly learn to change their ways to accommodate each other’s needs.
5) When dating, each one is on their best behavior. The real person emerges only after marriage. Since two people will be sharing their lives together, it is best that one doesn’t keep secrets that will eventually come out and hurt the partner. Trust and respect form the basis of every relationship.
Marriage may seem daunting to some but the reality is marriage truly teaches us the beauty of real love and commitment.
